This year, we’re especially proud to highlight 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, a joyful initiative that helps families build strong reading habits from the very beginning.

With literacy rates declining across Michigan, programs like this are more important than ever. Thanks to community support, families in our district enjoy free access to books, story times, and encouragement — giving every child the best possible start.

For many in Elk Rapids — especially grandparents who love sharing stories with little ones — this is a beautiful way to invest in the future of our community.

Every dollar given to the Friends directly funds 100% of the library’s programming, including:

• Early literacy and summer reading
• Technology help and tutoring
• The Book Cellar and the Library of Things
• Special events for readers of all ages
